01 · The problem
Today, nothing digital is gone for good.
Domains
A domain that lapses goes back to the public pool. Anyone can register it, even a name that once belonged to a person.
NFTs
An NFT can be burned, but no one checks how final the burn is, records it, or stands behind it.
02 · How it works
Two tracks. One way in. No way out.
Domains
Retired.
Held dark and locked, renewed forever. Never resolved, sold or released.
- Offer. The donor proves control and signs a gift.
- Screen. Nothing stolen, disputed or under legal hold.
- Entomb. No nameservers, registry lock, renewals paid forever.
NFTs and digital assets
Destroyed.
One donor-signed transaction. Mímir's Well never holds what it destroys.
- Score. How final can this burn be? You see it before you drop.
- Burn. An immutable contract sends it where no key exists.
- Record. Cataloged as a hash. The content is never kept.
03 · Built to last
Designed to outlive its founders.
- An endowment, held by an independent trusteeIt pays for renewals, staff, audits and legal defense, forever.
- A charter no vote can changeThe core promises are entrenched. No board, donor or officer can amend them.
- Votes that only let things inEach month new domains are admitted. No vote can ever release one.
- A successor, already namedIf Mímir's Well ever fails, a custodian bound by the same charter takes over.
04 · Honest limits
What forever can and cannot mean.
- Domains are retired, not destroyedA registry, ICANN or a court order can still override us.
- A burn destroys the token, not every copyImages stored elsewhere are outside anyone's reach.
- "Perpetual" means while the foundation existsWith a successor bound to the same charter if it does not.
05 · The founding ask
One endowment. Thirty thousand names. Forever.
The concept is ready to become a real foundation with its first large donation. Figures are planning estimates.
06 · Get involved
Want to help found it?
The design is done. The first large donation turns it into a real foundation. If you would like to be that founding donor, or to help shape what comes next, reach out.
